News Report 18 Feb 1904 The Lancashire Daily Post4
The obituary of Thomas' son in law, William Blackhurst, husband of eldest daughter, Mary Ann included information about Thomas.

It reported that "Mr. Sinfield, tailor of Fishergate, who was the youngest of 14 brothers who had fought in the Crimea, and the only one who came back from that awful holocaust."

However as the Crimean War was 1853 to 1856, a decade after Thomas died, it would appear some accuracy of data has been lost through the passage of time and fading memories of family stories.

It is more likely that Thomas went to war before he married in 1927 (when he was about 35 years old). This means it is more likely that he fought during The Napoleonic Wars of 1803 to 1815. Thomas would have been aged about 12 to 24 during this period.

Whether the tale of 13 older brothers is as inaccurate is not known, at present no further information has been found about this large family.
